Biography

Born and raised in the vast farmland of southern Minnesota, Matt now resides in Shawnee with his wife and three children. After completing his first round of graduate work at the University of Wisconsin, Superior he taught for three years at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Milwaukee, WI teaching Theatre and Communications. He then moved back to his homeland of Minnesota to take a teaching job at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. There, he spent seven years teaching, directing and designing in the Theatre Department. After returning to graduate school and earning his MFA in Theatre Directing at Minnesota State University, Mankato (where he was the Nadine B. Andreas Teaching Scholar two years in a row), he served as a sabbatical replacement instructor for one year at the same institution, teaching a multitude of course and directing plays, as well as serving on the Graduate Faculty on thesis committees. He is now delighted to be a part of the OBU faculty serving the Lord in the theatre program. His passion is directing for the stage, having directed over 25 productions, with some favorites being "Blood Wedding" by Federico Garcia Lorca, "Romeo and Juliet" by Shakespeare, "Sky Girls" by Jenny Laird and “Antigone” by Sophocles. He and his family are members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Oklahoma City.
