John Cragin came to Oklahoma from Japan to attend OBU for his undergraduate degree.

He and his wife, Becky, then began business careers that took them to 30 countries over a period of 30 years. In 1978, after several years in Southeast Asia, they returned to Oklahoma where both worked on graduate degrees at OU. John completed his Ph.D. in Management with an emphasis on international business and China-US relations. They returned to Asia where both were involved in teaching and consulting governments and major international firms while they build a business designed to open the China markets. The business they launched in China has since grown to $40 million with eight locations in China and the Middle East. In 1990, they returned to Oklahoma and OBU where John taught in the Paul Dickinson College of business and Becky, after completing her CPA, became the CFO for the city of Shawnee. John went from teaching back to business twice from 1990 to the present, once to head the international department for a manufacturing firm and once to start a company specializing in virtual reality training and education. John retuned to OBU to teach in 2014 where he specializes in International Business, Strategy, and Social Entrepreneurship.

John and Becky have two children, both OBU graduates with graduate degrees from Baylor, Duke and Cambridge. One lives in New York City where she is a well-known playwright and professor. The other lives in Washington D.C. where she works as a senior fellow for the National Defense University, specializing in counter-terrorism.

When asked what has made the most significant impact on their lives, John, Becky and their families are quick to say that “It all began in Japan, where we met and were first introduced to the person of Jesus Christ. Everything we do is under His direction for the purpose of serving Him.”
