8) Applying to be an RA
The Resident Assistant application process is conducted each year during the month of February. Any student with a minimum 2.5 grade point average, at least one complete semester of college, and an interest in assisting college students is encouraged to apply.
The current application includes one page for personal information, and three pages for references. The Residential Life Staff also require that each applicant submit a resume with their application. A deadline for applications is set in mid-February in which students are asked to have the entire application turned into the Residential Life office. References should be submitted directly to the Residential Life Office by the individual completing the reference. In addition, applications will by asked to sign up for an interview at the time that they submit their application. Interviews are conducted by the Residence Directors and the Director of Residence Life.
The Residence Directors and the Director of Residence LIfe then make final selections based upon needs within the residence halls and qualifications of the applicants. Students that are chosen to serve are made aware of selection before housing meetings in early March and begin work in the fall.
In rare situations, a Resident Assistant vacates the position in the midst of a school year. Normally, this vacated position will be filled as soon as possible. In this case, all applicants must apply in the normal fashion, but may only be interviewed once by one or two Residence Directors.
