Small groups offer:
- An immediate place of belonging when you arrive at OBU
- Spiritual growth
- A chance to meet and get to know people
- A chance to meet an upper-classman who really cares about you, and will walk with you through your first year at OBU
- Peer assistance, guidance, and encouragement
- A place to get connected and stay connected
2. How do I join a small group?(back to top)
There are a number of ways you can get involved:
Before you arrive on campus… you can Sign Up online, and an upper-classman will get in touch with you before school starts
Once you arrive on campus… you will get to meet NSM leaders during Welcome Week, and can choose to join one of their groups during your first week at OBU
After school starts… you will have a chance to meet other students, and upper-classmen who will be leading small groups during our weekly rallies on Tuesday nights-The first one will be August 30th
3. Who will be leading these small groups? What will they do? (back to top)
Upperclassmen who have demonstrated a love for the Lord and want to be a part of the lives of new students by leading an NSM small group. We aren't anyone special or highly qualified; we are a group of students who simply want to offer encouragement, support, advice, friendship, and spiritual challenge to incoming freshmen and transfers.
4. What will we do in small group?(back to top) Whatever you want! Really, every group is unique, and it is totally up to your group to decide whether you want to study a book of the Bible, read a book together, take turns sharing what the Lord is teaching you, pray together, or just hang out every once in a while. We provide the leaders with suggestions for bible study topics and books to go through, but each group is able to decide what is best for them.
5. Will being in a small group be a big time commitment? (back to top) The commitment is only as big as you want it to be. Most small groups meet once a week for about an hour. The time, place, frequency, and length vary between groups, though.
6. Is small group just about Bible study, or is there more to it? (back to top) It is our hope that in small groups you will build relationships between students so that they may grow deeper in your walk with the Lord, but they are also a place to relax, enjoy friendships and have fun! The leaders are not only there for you once a week during Bible study time, but they want to walk with you every day, and enjoy hanging out with you any time!
7. What is the goal of small groups?(back to top) To impact our campus and our world through the relationships built within small groups, and to pass God's love on to new students so that they can impact the world around them.
