Putnam to Bring Chapel Message Oct. 19

OBU will welcome Jim Putnam, founder and senior pastor of Real Life Ministries in Post Falls, Idaho, as the speaker in the weekly chapel service Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 10 a.m. in Raley Chapel. The community is invited to attend.

Putnam’s message will focus on “The Pursuit of God: The Speaking Voice,” based on Scripture found in John 1:1. The topic follows OBU’s current chapel theme, “The Pursuit of God: The Human Thirst for the Divine,” based on the book by Christian author A.W. Tozer.

Prior to his role as senior pastor, Putnam served as a youth minister in two small churches. In college, he won three All American titles in wrestling and went on to become a successful wrestling coach.

Real Life Ministries began as a small group in 1998 and has grown to a membership of more than 8,000 people. Ninety percent of its fellowship is active in small groups. Outreach Magazine continually lists Real Life Ministries among the top 100 most-influential churches in America.

Putnam earned degrees from Boise State University and Boise Bible College. His voice reaches hundreds of thousands of people across the nation through speaking conferences, the Web, radio and weekend services. He is the author of two books, “Church is a Team Sport” and “Real Life Discipleship.”

The pastor has described his passion as discipleship through small groups. With his background in sports and coaching, he believes in the value of strong coaching as a means to disciple others.

He lives with his wife and three sons in scenic northern Idaho.
