Goforth to Perform Senior Trumpet Recital April 18

OBU student Kade Goforth will perform his senior recital Monday, April 18, at 7 p.m. in Yarborough Auditorium in Raley Chapel on the OBU campus. The community is invited to attend.

Goforth, a trumpeter from Tulsa, Okla., is the son of Dr. Stephen and Sharon Goforth. He is from the studio of Dr. Kevin Pruiett, associate professor of music and coordinator of instrumental music at OBU. Goforth is a member of Bison Jazz Orchestra, OBU Symphonic Band and the Bison Glee Club, where he serves as president. After graduation, he plans to enroll in graduate studies for trumpet performance.

The recital will include works by several composers: “Heroic Music” by Georg Philipp Telemann; “Concerto for Trumpet” by Jan Křtitel JiříNeruda; “Tryptique” by Henri Tomasi; “Sonata for Trumpet and Piano” by Eric Ewazen; and “Oleo” by Sonny Rollins.

The recital will conclude with “Autumn Leaves” by Johnny Mercer, featuring a jazz combo including Goforth on trumpet, Parker Goforth on bass, Steven Soward on guitar and Patrick Womack on drums.

Goforth will be accompanied by Dr. Ron Lewis on piano throughout the recital. Lewis, professor emeritus of music, taught piano and served as keyboard chairman for 36 years at OBU before his retirement in 2006.

The audience is invited to a reception in Raley Chapel room 142 immediately following the recital.
