Roye Attends Economic Club Dinner
July 22, 2010OBU senior Kristen Roye, a finance major from Harrah, Okla., was selected by the Paul Dickinson School of Business faculty to attend the Economic Club of Oklahoma dinner during the spring semester. Roye was one of seven finance and economics students chosen statewide for the honor, which includes a $1,000 scholarship. The annual Economic Club of Oklahoma dinner, hosted in the Petroleum Building in downtown Oklahoma City, offers the students an opportunity to meet with club members. "The Economic Club is a very prestigious organization made up of Oklahoma City business leaders," said Dr. Craig Walker, OBU Wheeler professor of economics. "Kristen was able to meet with these men and women. As part of the introduction of the scholarship recipients, each honoree's accomplishments are highlighted. This allows OKC business leaders see the accomplishments of one of our best students. Of course this reflects well on Kristen, OBU and the Paul Dickinson School of Business. "Additionally, every chance our students get to interact with business professionals helps them to develop their interpersonal skills. These experiences are always valuable." Lane Riggs, vice president of optimization planning and economics for Valero Energy Corp., spoke about the economics of U.S. refining during the event. "I gained from the experience that the impression a student makes on their professors, as well as the connections you make at your time at OBU, can have a huge impact on a student, either positive or negative," Roye said. She plans to graduate in December 2010.
