Fields Awards have been presented since 1964. Baptist Communicators Association was organized in 1953 as the Baptist Public Relations Association, now called Baptist Communicators Association. Most of the association's approximately 300 members represent Southern Baptist agencies such as the International Mission Board, North American Mission Board, LifeWay Christian Resources and Woman's Missionary Union; state conventions; Baptist newspapers; and Baptist universities. The organization's main mission is to assist Baptist communications personnel in gaining professional growth and fulfillment. Members share useful ideas which enable their peers to accomplish effective communications planning and achieve superior results. The group also provides a reinforcing fellowship for members and gives recognition for outstanding professional achievement.
