Maxwell to Lead Students in Chapel
September 19, 2002The pastor of a growing Oklahoma City church will lead Oklahoma Baptist University's Sept. 25 chapel service. Dr. Dan Maxwell, pastor of Heritage Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, will speak to OBU students at 10 a.m. in the university's Raley Chapel. Since becoming pastor of Heritage in 1990, Maxwell has seen church attendance rise to more than 2,000 each week. Maxwell has served four years as an OBU trustee and four years on the executive board of the Baptist Children's Home. He also has been a chaplain for Oklahoma's State House of Representatives and Senate. He is a regular speaker for Baptist Collegiate Ministries at the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. A native of Jones, Maxwell began preaching at the age of 16 and has led more than 100 revivals and crusades. He enjoys biblical archeology and has taken trips to Israel, India and Mexico. He also is a charter member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. Maxwell is a 1976 graduate of OBU. He earned a master's degree from Trinity Theological Seminary and a doctorate from Carolina Christian University. He and wife, Jeanie, have two children, Israel, a senior religion major at OBU, and Charity.
