Stogsdill Joins OBU Advancement Team

Thomas Stogsdill, a 1971 OBU graduate, has returned to his alma mater as director of development for Texas. He previously served as vice president for development and campaign director for The University of South Dakota Foundation in Vermillion, S.D.

“Tom Stogsdill brings a proven record of experience and leadership in higher education advancement to our already strong development team,” said Will Smallwood, vice president for advancement at OBU. “To know Tom is to know a dedicated and passionate development professional. As an alum, Tom understands and represents the very best of OBU’s mission, vision and values. I am convinced that Tom will quickly earn the trust and confidence of his fellow alumni and donors as he leads our development initiatives in Texas.”

Following graduation from OBU, Stogsdill earned a master’s degree in music and a master’s degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He completed doctoral study at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

At the University of South Dakota Foundation, Stogsdill directed the university’s first comprehensive campaign, which had a $60 million goal but boasted a $134 million total. After one year, he was named vice president for development, leading all fundraising and development support programs for the foundation.

He has served as executive director of development for Mississippi State University; vice president and campaign director for Elon University in North Carolina; and vice president for development at Wingate College, also in North Carolina. He previously served as a senior consultant for Church Stewardship Ministries and Cargill Associates, fundraising consultant firms in Fort Worth, through which he directed more than 65 capital campaigns.

Stogsdill is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. He served as class chairman for two OBU alumni campaigns. He has been a board member for Union County (N.C.) Habitat for Humanity; a member and former director of the Vermillion Lions International; and a board member of Vermillion Area Community Foundation and Vermillion United Way. He was chairman of the finance committee and member of the pastor search committee at Grace Baptist Church in Vermillion.
