‘Future of Islam in America’ Lecture Presented Nov. 21

Seminary professor Dr. James Chancellor will present a lecture titled “The Future of Islam in America” at OBU on Monday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. in the Geiger Center, rooms 218-219. The public is invited to attend.
Chancellor serves as W. O. Carver professor of Christian missions and world religions at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. He has a rich background in the studies of world religions and religious pluralism. His areas of specialization are Islamic culture and New Religious Movements. He is the author of “Life in The Family: An Oral History of the Children of God,” published by Syracuse University Press.
Prior to joining the faculty of Southern Seminary in 1992, he served as dean of Colorado Christian University. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Manitoba and has taught at the Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, the Malaysian Baptist Theological Seminary, The Baptist Seminary of Singapore and The Philippine Baptist Theological Seminary.
Chancellor’s professional memberships include the Conference of Faith and History and the American Academy of Religion. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Bellevue College and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska, Omaha, and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned his doctorate from Duke University.
