November 7, 2011
Christmas is just around the corner, and the OBU Art Club will provide an opportunity to purchase original works of art -– perfect for gift-giving –- during the 2011 Annual Art Auction Friday, Nov. 11. The event is part of OBU’s 2011 Homecoming festivities.
Beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the downstairs Geiger Center, the community is invited to preview and bid on the various pieces of artwork. On the auction block this year are drawings, paintings, photographs, prints, pottery, stained glass, graphic designs and at least one weaving.
The Art Club chose to try a new format for the auction. Rather than attending a traditional live auction, interested buyers can submit silent sealed bids for the works they are interested in from noon until 9:30 p.m., at which time bidding will close so bids can be opened and works picked up. A bid may be submitted at any time, and the buyer does not have to be present at the end of bidding.
In addition, a small selection of works will be available for immediate purchase.
Twenty percent of the all profits from the art auction will be donated to a charity chosen by a majority vote from the students. The balance will fund mini-grants for senior art students to help cover the cost of their senior art shows.
