OBU’s Recreation and Wellness Center and National Exercise Trainers Association, a non-profit fitness professional association, will co-sponsor nationally recognized fitness workshops on Saturday, Oct. 29, and Sunday, Oct. 30. Both workshops will take place at the Recreation and Wellness Center, 500 W. University, in Shawnee, Okla. Workshop fees apply for participants.
A Kettlebell specialty certification will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Participants will attend an introductory course that teaches the basics of Kettlebell training, the history of Kettlebell workouts, safety techniques, body positioning, alignment and appropriate starting weights. Those who attend will experience the most popular Kettlebell exercises, including the swing, clean and press, the snatch and many more.
On Sunday, Oct. 30, “Kick It Up” will take place from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. In this workshop, participants will cover the basics of traditional cardio kickboxing and expand intensities and complexities of typical kickboxing workouts. Participants will also be provided with kickboxing-based workout ideas, such as interval and circuit to strength and endurance training, all with elements of functional, balance and core training.
