The families of OBU students are invited to visit the university’s campus during Family Day on Saturday, Oct. 8. Family Day provides the chance for parents to visit their child and see his or her transition to college. Registration starts at 10:30 a.m. in the Geiger Center.
The day begins with a free day of fitness for family members at the Recreation and Wellness Center (RAWC), beginning at 6:30 a.m. The Tree of Life bookstore opens at 9:30 a.m. and will remain open until 3 p.m. Parents and students have the opportunity to meet with professors at 11 a.m., followed by lunch in the Laura Scales Cafeteria at noon.
After lunch, families can enjoy numerous activities, including “Saturday in the Park…ing Lot” for the Texas/OU football game, and visiting local shops and diners for a true Shawnee experience. Residence halls will be open from 1-5 p.m., allowing family members to visit their students’ residence rooms. Campus tours will be offered from 3:30-5 p.m. Families are also invited to “Dinner with the Dean” in the Laura Scales Cafeteria, or they may eat on their own. The cost for the dinner is $5 per person.
Campus Activities Board will wrap up Family Day with Freshman Follies at 8 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. The annual variety show features skits and other performances presented by members of the freshmen class. After the show, OBU will host a “Sibling Sleepover,” and younger brothers or sisters of the same gender are invited to spend the night in the students’ rooms.
