Buchanan Brings ‘Kids Celebration’ to State Fair
September 20, 2011
Dr. Bill Buchanan, associate professor of church recreation at OBU, is using his recreational skills to create a non-traditional classroom at the Oklahoma State Fair through Sept 25. Believing “families that play together, stay together,” Buchanan’s interactive show, called “Kids Celebration,” is bringing a family focus to the State Fair venue.
Designed especially for the fun of children and their parents, Kids Celebration provides a high-energy, fun atmosphere where families can engage in numerous games and competitions together. The show offers unique opportunities for personal interaction in the midst of a culture dominated by social media contact.
Buchanan’s inspiration for the show stemmed from his desire to enrich families through fun-filled interactive games. Although representing OBU as a faculty member, Kids Celebration is his personal ministry, expressing his passion for reconnecting families.
“Parents always appreciate being reminded that we don’t laugh and play enough with our kids,” Buchanan said. “Kids need to see us being silly.”
Kids Celebration runs three shows each day in the State Fair’s Capitol City Theatre, at 1:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Each show runs 30 minutes long.
