The OBU community will officially launch its 2011-12 academic year with Fall Convocation Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium.
Dr. David W. Whitlock, president of OBU, will present the address during the event. Dr. Bobby Kelly, Ruth Dickinson professor of religion and recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Teaching Award, will lead in a litany reflecting on the touchstones of OBU’s mission. The mission states, “OBU transforms lives by equipping students to pursue academic excellence, integrate faith with all areas of knowledge, engage a diverse world, and live worthy of the high calling of God in Christ.”
Faculty will dress in traditional academic regalia, and new faculty and staff will be introduced. Three faculty members will be installed into academic positions, including Dr. R. Bruce Carlton, professor of missions; Dr. Christian T. George, assistant professor of biblical and theological studies; and Dr. R. Scott Pace, assistant professor of applied ministry.
The service also will include an anthem, “O God Beyond All Praising,” presented by the University Chorale. The group is directed by Dr. Brent Ballweg, Burton Patterson professor of music and director of choral activities.
