Avila Debuts Senior Art Show April 21
April 18, 2011
Yesi Avila-Salazar, a senior OBU art education major from Madill, Okla., will open her senior art show April 21 at 7:30 p.m. on the second floor of Mabee Learning Center on the OBU campus. The public is invited to attend.
From April 21-28, Avila’s artwork will be available for viewing during the regular operating hours of the Mabee Learning Center.
“Most of my work is based on realistic objects that help one appreciate everyday surroundings,” Avila said. “There are many things around us that are beautiful and can help inspire an idea for a great piece.”
Avila said most of her art work is based off of a brainstorming of ideas, a process she feels is unique because the outcome can be completely different from the original composition.
“I usually begin with an initial idea, and as I work on the piece, I continue to incorporate new ideas,” she said.
Of the many artists who inspire her, Avila said Impressionist painter Claude Monet is one of her favorites.
“His realistic portrayal of landscapes and his use of colors were very impressive,” she said.
Avila said her future plans include teaching in the art field. Her goal is to motivate youth to appreciate art and its influences.
