Flowers, Jones to Perform Junior Recital April 10

OBU Johnathan Flowers and Andre Jones will perform their junior recital Sunday, April 10, at 3:30 p.m. in Yarborough Auditorium in Raley Chapel on the OBU campus. The community is invited to attend.

Flowers, a tuba player, is from Irving, Texas. The son of Mark and Leigh Ann Craddock, he is from the studio of Paul Nesper, an adjunct professor of low brass at OBU. Flowers currently serves as Kappa Kappa Psi music chair, Bison Jazz Orchestra chaplain and chapel crew representative. After graduation, he plans to become an inner-city music teacher for lower-income students.

Jones, a flutist, is from Lawton, Okla. The son of Darnell and Susan Jones, he is from the studio of Nancy Stizza-Ortega, an adjunct professor of flute at OBU. Jones is a member of the OBU Symphonic Band, the OBU-Shawnee Community Orchestra, Kappa Kappa Psi and the Bison Glee Club, where he serves as librarian. After graduation, he plans to become a teacher.

The students will alternate performances, beginning with Flowers performing “Suite for Tuba and Piano” by Don Haddad. Jones will begin with “Sonata in E-flat Major” by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Other pieces to be featured in the recital include “Andante for Tuba oder Possaure und Klavier, Op. 64,” by Alexander Tcherepnin; “Fantasie, Op. 79,” by Gabriel Faure; “Sonatina for Tuba and Piano,” by Merle E. Hogg; and “Flute Forest for Solo Flute,” by Gary Schocker.

The recital will conclude with “Duet for Flute and Tuba,” by Walter S. Hartley, performed by Flowers and Jones together.

The recital by Flowers and Jones partially fulfills the requirements for the bachelor of music education degree with instrumental emphasis. They will be accompanied by Dr. Ron Lewis, professor emeritus of music, on piano.

The audience is invited to a reception in Raley Chapel room 142 immediately following the recital.
