Alumni, students and friends of OBU can recognize outstanding University personnel through three major awards. Nominations are now open for these annual honors.
Each year, OBU recognizes three faculty and staff who have distinguished themselves through teaching or service to the University. The awards include Distinguished Teaching, Meritorious Service, and Promising Teacher. The award recipients are recognized during Spring Commencement. A complete list of previous award recipients is available here.
Nominations are due no later than 5 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011. A nomination should include the nominator’s name, the name of the nominee, the award name for which the nomination is made, and a brief statement supporting the nomination.
Nominations can be submitted to the OBU Provost’s Office, OBU Box 61241, 500 West University, Shawnee, OK 74804, or sent via email to email@example.com.
The Distinguished Teaching Award is presented to a full-time teaching faculty member who has served on the OBU faculty for a minimum of five consecutive years; and who has distinguished himself or herself in a teaching profession over a period of several years as acknowledged by former students, current students, and peers. Faculty may receive the award only once in a six-year period.
The Meritorious Service Award is presented to a full-time faculty or staff member who has been on the OBU faculty or staff for a minimum of 10 years. The honoree must have distinguished himself or herself in service to the University as acknowledged by former students, current students, peers, or other University friends. This honor may be received only once.
The Promising Teacher Award is given to a full-time teaching faculty member who has served on the OBU faculty for less than six years. The recipient must have proven himself or herself to have outstanding teaching promise as acknowledged by former students, current students, and peers. This award may be received only once.
