Bacone, OBU Take Collegiate Ministry Basketball Honors

Men from Bacone College and women from OBU snagged the top honors at the annual Baptist Collegiate Ministries state basketball tournament March 25-26 at OBU.

More than 300 students representing Baptist Collegiate Ministries basketball teams from across Oklahoma traveled to OBU to compete for the title of Oklahoma BCM Basketball Champions. This is the third year OBU has hosted the tournament, which included 19 men’s teams and nine women’s teams.

The men’s basketball team representing Bacone College receive the championship trophy for the basketball tournament from John Strappazon, Baptist Collegiate Ministry specialist for Oklahoma. The team was led by Rowdy Morris, Baptist Collegiate Ministry director for the Muskogee Area, which includes ministries at Bacone.

In the final round of the men’s tournament, Bacone College –- making their first appearance in the state collegiate ministry tourney -– defeated Cameron University for the win. OBU women defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State University for the championship title.

The tournament is an outreach event sponsored by Oklahoma Baptist Collegiate Ministries. The goal of the event is to engage students who may not have a personal relationship with Jesus by giving those student players who are believers opportunity to share Christ verbally and through their character and sportsmanship, said Odus Compton, director of student ministry at OBU.
