"El Secreto de sus Ojos" ("The Secret in Their Eyes"), an Argentine crime thriller, will be the next foreign-language film presented during the Oklahoma Baptist University Spring 2011 Foreign Film Festival. The film won the 2010 Academy Award for best foreign-language film.
The community is invited to attend the showing of this Spanish-language movie, which will be Tuesday, March 22, at 7 p.m. The films are shown in the Mabee Learning Center's Audio-visual Auditorium on the lower level of the library.
The movie tells the story of a retired legal counselor who wants to solve a crime committed 25 years earlier. He writes a novel hoping to find closure for the unresolved homicide case and for an unreciprocated love - both which still haunt him decades later.
"Watching a movie in another language is a fun way to improve vocabulary and to develop an ear for the language," said Dr. David Nagle, assistant professor of German at OBU.
Other foreign films in the spring festival include:
"Machuca" (Spanish) - April 7
"Astérix & Obélix: Mission Cleopatra" (French) - April 19
The film festival is presented by OBU's Department of Modern Languages, German Club, French Club and Alpha Mu Gamma. For more information about OBU's Division of Language and Literature, click here.
