The University Chorale from OBU, OBU's premiere mixed ensemble, will perform at two churches on Sunday, March 27, in Shawnee and Oklahoma City. The public is invited to attend the free performances.
The Chorale will sing during the 10:25 a.m. worship at First Baptist Church in Shawnee, located at 227 N. Union Ave., on the corner of 10th and Union in downtown Shawnee.
The group will sing during the 6:15 p.m. worship service at Village Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. The church is located at 10600 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73120.
Since its founding in 1963, the University Chorale has been comprised of some of OBU's finest singers selected by audition. The Chorale's purpose remains the same as it was in its earliest days: "to present advanced choral literature to the OBU campus and community."
University Chorale is in demand for performances in the state and region and maintains an active performing schedule both on and off campus. In the past seven years the Chorale has appeared at the Southwestern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association, The Church Music Workshop, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, the Oklahoma State Youth Choir Festival and the Oklahoma Music Educators Association In-service Workshop.
The Chorale is directed by Dr. Brent Ballweg, who also serves as director of choral activities at OBU. He received his bachelor's degree at OBU and his master's degree at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned his doctorate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Ballweg, who also serves as director of OBU's Bison Glee Club, is active as a guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator for various music contests, festivals and workshops across the country.
