Youmans to Serve on Oxford Advisory Board

Dr. Karen Youmans, associate professor of English at OBU, was recently appointed to a three-year term on the Oxford Programmes Advisory Board. The program is headed by the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities. The Oxford Programmes Advisory Board oversees two programs offered to students, the Scholars' Semester in Oxford and the Oxford Summer Programme.

The Scholars' Semester in Oxford allows students to engage in intensive scholarship at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. Students are able to study and develop skills in any available area of interest. The University of Oxford is the oldest university in the English-speaking world.

The Oxford Summer Programme is taken in Wycliffe Hall at Oxford. Students are encouraged to learn more about the Christian traditions in the United Kingdom and to engage in specialized academic work.

Youmans earned her bachelor's degree from Louisiana State University and her Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. In addition to being an associate professor of English, Youmans is also the director of the Honors program at OBU. Courses she teaches at OBU include English Composition: Exposition and Argument, Western Civilization, Literature of the Western World and Major Authors: British Poetry and Shakespeare.
