The Oklahoma Baptist University Symphonic Band and Bison Jazz Orchestra will present the annual M&M’s Pops Concert on Thursday, Oct. 28, and Friday, Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium.
The community is invited to attend the event, and tickets are now on sale.
“The concert is titled ‘A Salute to America!’ and will include selections that portray America from a musical point of view,” said Dr. Lauren Denney Wright, OBU director of bands. “I am very excited to be carrying on the long-standing tradition of this concert. The students have been working incredibly hard and are excited to perform this week.”
Denney Wright will conduct the Symphonic Band, and Dr. Dan Reeder, OBU Geiger professor of finance, will serve as the master of ceremonies.
The Bison Jazz Orchestra, directed by Dr. Kevin Pruiett, will perform patriotic selections in a big band style as well as music from Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington.
“Our portion of the program gives the audience and the members of the ensemble the opportunity to experience music from the early years of big band music,” Pruiett said. “Both groups have been working very hard this year, and I am very confident that the audience will enjoy the entire evening.”
The concerts are family-friendly. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and children, and free for children under age 2.
“It is a great family event and a wonderful opportunity for OBU students and the community to enjoy great music in a relaxed environment,” Denney Wright said.
Tickets are available in the Fine Arts Office in Raley Chapel and will also be sold at the door. Group rates are available. For more information, call (405) 878-2307.
