The OBU Division of Music will present a faculty recital featuring Nancy Stizza-Ortega on flute, Dr. Michael Dean on piano and guest musician Donald Munday on double bass on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. The program will include works by composers from the 1700s through modern day including Mozart, Casella and Bolling.
Ortega is instructor of flute at OBU. She plays piccolo and third flute in the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, and principal flute in the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to her work at OBU, she teaches a private studio of middle school and high school students. She is a founding member and past president of the Oklahoma Flute Society. She earned a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's degree in flute performance from the University of Oklahoma. She also attended the Aspen Music School, the Classical Music Seminar (Austria) and the Chautauqua Institution. Her principal teachers include Valerie Watts, Christine Smith, Richard Sherman and David Shostac.
Dean is assistant professor of music and coordinator of keyboard studies at OBU. He serves as East District co-president of the Oklahoma Music Teachers Association. Dean maintains an active schedule as workshop clinician, adjudicator, solo performer, collaborative artist and faculty member at summer music camps throughout the United States and Canada. He is a member of the Manno/Dean Piano Duo. He earned degrees at Minnesota State University Moorhead and the University of Oklahoma. His principal teachers include Alan Chow, Edward Gates, Jane Magrath, Terrie Manno and Gary Sipes.
Munday is a double bassist who works and teaches in Oklahoma City. He is the assistant principal bassist of the Lawton Philharmonic. As an instructor at Southern Nazarene University, he has helped many students develop their talent to become professional musicians who are working throughout the United States and Europe. Munday is also known for his arranging and composition skills, and he has had his music published and performed in various venues.
