More than 150 bicyclists converged on the Oklahoma Baptist University campus for the 10th Annual Bison Bicycle Classic, a fundraiser for the Shawnee chapter of Habitat for Humanity hosted on Saturday, Sept. 25.
The event is sponsored by the OBU Division of Music. Tourists were treated to 50-mile and 26-mile courses, and a Kid's Zone event helped children with learning the rules of the road and how to be safe on their bicycles. Beautiful weather and new course routes helped make the event an outstanding day for bicycling.
The event also featured 50-mile bicycle races for the first time. In the men's race, Spencer Johnson of Edmond, Okla., beat out a small field of sprinters to take first place, followed closely by Steve Colton of Oklahoma City in second place. Brady Schmiedeberg of Oklahoma City rounded out the top three male finishers.
In the first-ever separate women's race, Gina Kraft of Shawnee, Okla., edged out two other sprinters for first place. Teresa Tedder of Edmond took second, followed closely by Meredith Vernon of Shawnee.
Complete race results can be found on the OBU website by clicking here.
The 2011 edition of the Bison Bicycle Classic will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24. For more information, contact the OBU Division of Music at (405) 878-2306 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
