Praise Ensemble David’s Creed Seeks Fresh Talent
August 27, 2010
OBU's highly esteemed praise ensemble David's Creed will hold auditions among OBU students for new musicians Monday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. in Raley Chapel room 142. Potential positions include worship leader, drummer, pianist and tenor (voice).
David's Creed was established in 2007 by Dr. Lee Hinson, associate professor of church music and coordinator of the Church Music Department, as a flavorful traveling praise group who found purpose in connecting local churches to the OBU community. Current sponsor Dr. Casey Gerber, professor of music, plans to continue this tradition by providing service opportunities for the members of the group.
"The students really enjoy getting to share in church services and interacting with church members," Gerber said. "The group also serves as ambassadors for the OBU family - anytime we are out leading worship or performing, people can see the quality of students we have here."
Each auditioning OBU student will be expected to play/sing prepared music with the returning members of the group, as well as sight read a new piece of music from a chart/lead sheet. Auditioning students can receive the music from Gerber by e-mailing him a request prior to auditions.
Gerber said he looks for students who can fulfill their role within the group. He said he also seeks members who hold themselves to high academic standards and represent OBU well.
"Students must also be quality musicians and be able to function well within the group," he said.
The praise group's first fall appearance is set for the morning worship service at Bethel United Methodist Church on Sept. 12.
