Hockett's Compositions to be Performed April 18

Oklahoma Baptist University senior Ian Hockett will present his final student recital Sunday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. The public is invited to attend the free performance, which will feature works composed by Hockett.

From Dallas, Texas, Hockett is the son of Patty Considine and John Hockett. He is from the studio of Dr. James Vernon, OBU associate professor of music. He also has studied with Stephen Miles. The recital partially fulfills Hockett's requirements for the bachelor of musical arts degree with composition emphasis.

The recital will include "String Quartet No. 1," featuring the MacArthur String Quartet, comprised of Martin Dalton and Nan Lu on violin, Maria Canabarro on viola and Philipp Gulidov on cello. "Notra," will feature Valerie Hunt on flute and Jee Choi on cello. "The Forest Oak," with text by Beck James, will include a chorus of Morgan Gordan and Sarah Bailey, soprano; Lauren McHaney and Michelle Walkup, alto; Andre Jones and Jonathan Hamrick, tenor; and Casey Flynt and Justin Lee, bass. "Five Small Visuals" will be performed by Michael Dean, OBU assistant professor of music, on piano. "Parallel" will feature Patrick Womack on marimba and Hockett on piano.

During his time on Bison Hill, Hockett has been named to the President's Honor Roll and received music endowed scholarships. He has participated in the Bison Glee Club and Bison Jazz Orchestra. He was a performer in the 2010 Concerto-Aria Concert and an honoree at the 2009 Hanging of the Green. His future plans include pursing graduate studies in composition.

The audience is invited to a reception in Raley Chapel, room 142, immediately following the recital.
