April 1, 2010
Oklahoma Baptist University students Sara Elliot and Valerie Hunt will present their junior recital Sunday April 11, at 4:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Yarborough Auditorium. The public is invited to attend this free performance.
The program will include works by composers from the 1800s through modern day including Hindemith, Bach, Clarke, Copland, Neruda and Hue. The performers will be assisted on the piano by Ron Lewis, OBU professor emeritus of music. The recital partially fulfills the requirements for the bachelor's degree in music education with an instrumental emphasis.
During her time on Bison Hill, Elliott has served as vice president of membership education for Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity. Following graduation from OBU, she plans to attend graduate school and pursue a career as a teacher.
Hunt, a flutist from Peoria, Ariz., is the daughter of Dwight and Marilyn Hunt. She is from the studio of Nancy Stizza-Ortega, OBU adjunct instructor of flute.
At OBU, Hunt has been involved in Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Eta Sigma honor society, OBU Symphonic Band, Bison Jazz Orchestra, OBU-Shawnee Community Orchestra, Collegium and MENC. She has served as Symphonic Band vice president, Jazz Band historian and Kappa Kappa Psi secretary and historian. Following graduation, she plans to pursue a master's degree in performance, start a private studio and teach music in schools or at the collegiate level.
The audience is invited to a reception in the student lounge following the recital.
