Wellness Partners with Blue Water Divers
March 19, 2010
The Oklahoma Baptist University Recreation and Wellness Center and Blue Water Divers of Oklahoma City announce a partnership to offer scuba diving experiences at the OBU Pool. PADI Certified Scuba Diver Instructors Eric Hopkins and Larry Menhusen, both of Shawnee, will coordinate instruction and oversee various programs.
The first non-credit class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7 p.m.-10 p.m., March 23, 25, 30 and April 1. The class includes all training materials, classroom instruction and pool sessions for confined water training. At the conclusion of the class, participants will then be eligible to schedule the open-water qualification with Blue Waters Divers.
Persons interested should register at the OBU Recreation and Wellness Center (RAWC) front desk and pick-up the required books and information packet, including medical forms which must be completed prior to the first class meeting. Cost for the non-credit class is $210 for RAWC members and $230 for non-members. Children must be at least 10 years old to join the class.
Additional non-credit class sessions will be offered at the OBU RAWC this spring and summer. The OBU Kinesiology and Leisure Studies Department will also offer a one-credit Physical Activity Scuba Diving course next fall semester.
The first Thursday of every month, the OBU RAWC will offer "Scuba Thursday" from 7 p.m.-10 p.m. Open to anyone who is a certified scuba diver, Scuba Thursdays allow divers to come practice their skills with their own equipment. A PADI Certified instructor will be available to assist. Cost of Scuba Thursdays is free for RAWC Members, and non-members can purchase a RAWC guest pass (Adults $10.00, Children and Seniors $6.00).
"Bubble Makers" is a new type of party rental now available at the OBU RAWC. This uniquely themed party will allow children ages 8 and older to experience basic scuba diving skills under the close supervision of certified instructors. Children will also receive scuba-related party favors and an underwater souvenir photo of the party group.
