Oklahoma Baptist University's Women's Glee Club - the Bisonettes - will perform in four churches across the state Sunday, Feb. 21, and Sunday, March 7. The public is invited to attend the free performances.
On Feb. 21, the group will sing at First Baptist Church Lawton, located at 501 SW 2nd in Lawton, Okla., during the 11 a.m. worship service. They will sing at Noble Avenue Baptist Church in Guthrie, Okla., located at 1219 W. Noble, during the 6 p.m. worship service.
On March 7, the Bisonettes will sing at First Baptist Church in Norman, Okla., located at 211 W. Comanche St., during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. They will sing at First Baptist Church in Bristow, Okla., located at 226 E. 6th Street, during the 6 p.m. service.
The Bisonettes perform under the direction of Jack Pearson, OBU professor emeritus of music who has directed the Club for more than 30 years.
The group was organized in 1954 by Warren M. Angell, former dean of the College of Fine Arts. Members are selected through annual auditions and represent various academic areas of the university. The female glee club performs at many campus events, including chapel services, Homecoming and Hanging of the Green. They also visit many Oklahoma churches each year.
