Harris is a member of the keyboard faculty at the University of Northern Colorado and the cover conductor of the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition to teaching a studio of national and international students, he recently co-founded the Colorado Piano Festival which he co-directs with pianist Lei Weng.
He enjoys an active career as a pianist, chamber musician, conductor and vocal coach, feeling equally at home at the keyboard or on the podium. He has appeared throughout the United States and in Austria, Germany, France, Italy and Asia, and at venues including Carnegie Hall, Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood and the National Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan.
In the 2008-09 season, Harris performed with notable musicians such as violinist William Preucil, who serves as concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra, and tenor Vale Rideout. The 2009-10 season includes a series of performances with soprano Tiffany Blake, a performance of Rachmaninoff's "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini" with the University of Northern Colorado Orchestra, and multiple chamber concerts. He also will serve as musical director and conductor for UNC Opera Theatre's production of Puccini's "Suor Angelica."
Harris earned his bachelor's degree in music, graduating summa cum laude from OBU in 2002. He earned his master's degree in music, doctorate in musical arts and performer's certificate from the Eastman School of Music. He has been awarded many honors including a Presser Foundation Scholarship. He has studied piano extensively with Billie Jo Forney, Ronald Lewis and Douglas Humphreys.
The recital is one of many events marking OBU's centennial celebration, "Proudly Stand on Bison Hill: The First 100 Years." A full list of centennial events is available at http://www.okbu.edu/100/celebrationhighlights.html.
