OBU Musicians to Host Habitat Benefit Concert

Musicians from Oklahoma Baptist University's Division of Music will host a concert to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Shawnee Inc. on Saturday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Potter Auditorium. The community is encouraged to attend. There will be no admission charge, but donations will be accepted during the concert.

Musicians from Tecumseh High School and Carl Albert High School and the Young Singers of Central Oklahoma will perform in the concert, along with OBU's Bison Glee Club, Bisonette Women's Glee Club and University Chorale.

"In keeping with the University's mission to prepare students for leadership and service, the Division of Music has involved the music faculty and students in raising money for Habitat for Humanity through the annual May benefit concert as well as the Bison Bicycle Classic in September," said Dr. James Vernon, chairman of the OBU Division of Music Chairman and associate professor of music. "In 2008, the division raised approximately $2,000 for the local charity and has a goal of raising enough money within the next five years to begin building a house for Habitat."

Habitat for Humanity of Shawnee Inc. is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit Christian-based housing ministry. More information about the organization will be presented during the concert.
