European Studies Program Offered In June

Editor's Note: The 2009 OBU European Studies Program trip has been canceled.

OBU students, alumni and friends have the opportunity to study in Europe and experience the culture of several countries as part of the University's 2009 European Studies Program.

"Our program offers exposure to European culture, arts and history," said Dr. Kaylene Barbe, director of OBU's study abroad programs. "Students will discover European history, art and literature; gain a greater understanding of how the Reformation impacts our lives; and get a new perspective of world events."

OBU re-launched the European Studies Program in 2008. It was an annual tradition for the University in the 1970s. The program is open to non-OBU students, also, said Barbe.

The 26-day study abroad program allows students the option to earn up to six hours of academic credit. Two courses will be offered for the summer of 2009. Arts and Western Culture (FNAR 2063) and History of Christianity: Reformation and Modern (HIST 2543/REL 2543) are available for course credit. Independent studies also are available through the program.

The OBU team will depart Oklahoma City June 2 and return on June 27. The group will be based at the Chateau de Pourtales in Strasbourg, France. Students will visit locations in France, as well as Germany and Switzerland.

Total cost for the 2009 European Studies Program is $4,950, which includes tuition, airfare, lodging, ground transportation, and 29 meals. The group is limited to 20 students.

The program's application deadline is Jan. 21, 2009. A non-refundable $250 deposit is due by Feb. 4, 2009. Interested individuals may download the ESP 2009 application from the OBU website and pay deposits at the OBU cashier's window in Thurmond Hall.
