Oklahoma Baptist University's Bison Glee Club, Bisonette Women's Glee Club, Cantare Cappella, and University Chorale will present their fall choral concert, "Laudes Dominum," Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Raley Chapel's Potter Auditorium. The public is invited to attend this free event.
The collection for the evening is united by the theme of praise to God. Selections will include settings from a variety of periods, cultures and styles. Singers will join together for several pieces, and each ensemble will be showcased separately.
Notable works by composers such as Giovanni Gabrieli and Johann Sebastian Bach will share the stage with pieces by Ralph Manuel, Emma Lou Diemer and Rosephanye Powell. Traditional a cappella compositions will be heard along with pieces accompanied by percussion and Baroque basso continuo, as well as pieces with piano and organ accompaniments.
Dr. Ron Lewis, retired professor of music, Mrs. Anita Williams, OBU staff accompanist, and Mr. Andrew Harper, a freshman from Olympia, Wash., will provide accompaniment from the keyboard, and several other students will be featured in instrumental and vocal roles. The concert will be under the direction of Dr. Darla Eshelman, OBU associate professor of music education and director of the Bisonettes, and Dr. David DeSeguirant, associate professor of music and director of choral activities.
