Senior Art Show Focuses on Life’s Journey
November 3, 2008
Oklahoma Baptist University senior Sarah Freeman uses art to express her view of reality and the journey she has made through OBU for the past three and a half years. Her artwork will be on display for viewers, who she hopes will relate to her work as individuals on a journey, during a senior art exhibit Nov. 7-19.
OBU is hosting a series of senior art shows throughout the fall semester depicting each artist's favorite pieces in accordance with their chosen theme. Freeman will showcase her artwork on campus, with the opening reception Monday, Nov. 10, 7-9 p.m., in the Art Division Gallery. The event is come-and-go style with refreshments and live music.
"Art is my passion," said Freeman, 21, from Stillwater, Okla. "I could not even think of dedicating such an important part of my life to something I was not passionate about."
Individuality is a key feature in Freeman's artwork. The central piece of the show is a series of paintings depicting biblical wisdom as a woman in the Art Nouveau style.
"I encourage those who view my show to decide which piece speaks most directly to them," she said.
After graduation next spring, Freeman plans to pursue a more intense training in the art of professional photography at Oklahoma State University's Okmulgee campus. Some of Freeman's most memorable artistic moments involve photographing various people and vacations spots such as Spain, France, Rome, Ireland and Hawaii.
