Students Celebrate Constitution Day
September 19, 2008
Oklahoma Baptist University students and faculty remembered the United States Constitution Wednesday, Sept. 17, in celebration of the fourth annual federal Constitution Day.
"On Sept. 17, 1787, the U.S. Constitution was signed by 39 brave men who changed the course of history," said the Constitution Day Web site (http://www.constitutionday.us/). "Now Constitution Day is a time for us to continue their legacy and develop habits of citizenship in a new generation of Americans."
Poster-size versions of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights were displayed in OBU's Geiger Center, the campus student center. Pocket-size versions of the Constitution also were available for students to take.
The Oklahoma Election Board provided information about voter registration, absentee voting and general elections. Students were encouraged to register to vote before the Oklahoma general election voter registration deadline on Oct. 10. The OBU Student Government Association also encouraged students to register and have an active voice in their campus government.
