Global Outreach Week to Equip Students for the Nations

A Sunday-night missions movie will kick off OBU's annual Global Outreach Week -- a week filled with activities, fairs and service projects to equip OBU students to live out the theme Scripture verse for the week, Acts 1:8. The movie begins at 9 p.m. on Sept. 14.

"This year GO Week will attempt to focus on more student involvement," said OBU's coordinator for the Avery T. Willis Center for Global Outreach (name has been omitted for security purposes). "The GO Team wants to emphasize prayer, and more specifically, prayer for the nations."

A prayer tent will be open 24 hours throughout GO Week for students to enter and pray. The tent, which will be erected on the lawn of Raley Chapel, will open at 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, and remain open until 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18.

Campus chapel services at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 15, and Wednesday, Sept. 17, will feature special guest Kevin McCollum, executive director of Lightbearers Ministries in Fayetteville, Ark. McCollum also will speak in the Geiger Center on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 9:05 p.m. Winterberg said the GO Center is excited to host McCollum on campus during the emphasis.

The GO Fair will fill the halls of the Geiger Center on Wednesday, Sept. 17, and Thursday, Sept. 18. Several mission organizations will gather to help prepare students for mission trips. The organizations will be available for students to get more information about available mission trips.

The Avery T. Willis Center for Global Outreach will sponsor several OBU outreach trips in January which will be represented at the GO Fair. Interested OBU students will be traveling to work among the Kai in Southern Asia; to Roca Blanca, Mexico; Central Asia; South America; Eastern Europe; Baltimore and New Orleans. Spring Break outreach trips will include Mexico, San Francisco, and Mission Arlington in Arlington, Texas. Summer outreach trips will complete this year's Global Outreach endeavors, with students traveling again to work among the Kai in Southern Asia; to East Asia; the Middle East; and other destinations.

The GO Week Team will complete GO Week with a campus chapel service at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 19. The team is led by co-chairs Josh King, a senior, and Liz Dillon, a sophomore, both from Oklahoma City.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, the GO Week Team will sponsor a local mission project for students. The project will begin at 9 a.m. For more information, contact OBU's Global Outreach offices at (405) 878-2372 or visit www.okbu.edu/go.
