Two Join OBU’s Public Relations Staff
July 8, 2008
Oklahoma Baptist University recently added two new members to the public relations department. Julie McGowan assumed the role of news and media relations director, and Kristi Zevenbergen is the new web content coordinator.
McGowan, a 1995 OBU graduate, joins OBU after serving as director of communications for Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Glen Allen, Va. She previously worked for the Missouri Baptist Convention and the International Mission Board, and has done freelance work since 2000.
"Julie offers a significant amount of experience. She has worked in a variety of settings, communicating hard news, as well as writing about individuals and what makes them unique," said Marty O'Gwynn, associate vice president for university communications. "Those skills will benefit our office as we communicate the story of OBU, through our people and our programs."
"After she has served in some key posts in denominational communications offices, we are glad she has chosen to return to Bison Hill," O'Gwynn said.
McGowan and her husband, Tory, have one daughter, Caitlin.
Zevenbergen also joins OBU's public relations department. Zevenbergen graduated from OBU in May with a bachelor's degree in public relations.
"We are delighted to have Kristi join our staff full-time. She brings a good understanding of our office, having served on our staff as a student worker," O'Gwynn said. "She has a demonstrated ability to work with others to achieve a common goal."
