Digby Bell Recital Postponed to March 30
February 29, 2008
The Digby Bell Memorial Recital at Oklahoma Baptist University has been rescheduled to Sunday, March 30, at 3 p.m. in OBU's Yarborough Auditorium.
The performance, originally scheduled for Thursday, March 6, at 7:30 p.m., was postponed due to potential inclement weather.
Michael Dean is the featured performer at the annual Digby Bell Memorial Recital. This will be his first full recital as an OBU faculty member.
As assistant professor of music, Dean joined the OBU piano faculty in 2006. His program will feature works by J.S. Bach, Joseph Haydn, Astor Piazzolla, Franz Liszt, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Frédéric Chopin, and Lowell Liebermann.
Dean previously taught at the Wheaton College Conservatory. He currently is pursuing a doctorate in performance and pedagogy at the University of Oklahoma. He earned bachelor's degrees in piano performance and mathematics from Minnesota State University-Moorhead, and a master's degree from the University of Oklahoma.
The Digby Bell Memorial Recital was established in memory of Dr. Bell, a noted University of Oklahoma music professor who died in 2004. His wife, Dr. Carol Ann Bell, is an OBU associate professor of music.
Bell was active in music as a teacher and as a solo and chamber music performer. He served as chairman of the keyboard department at the University of Oklahoma for 25 years, and was named professor of emeritus upon his retirement.
Bell was a member of OU's University Trio for 10 years and performed with the Oklahoma Symphony on numerous occasions. Prior to his death, Digby and Carol Ann performed an annual recital together at OBU.
