Lady Bison Roll Past MACU
February 16, 2008
Despite having their worst shooting night of the season, eighth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist cruised to a 69-42 road win Saturday at Mid-America Christian.
OBU shot just 32.3 percent on 21-of-65 shooting from the field, but hit 24 free throws in the east win in the team’s first trip to the Gaulke Activities Center.
But it was the same old strong defense for the Lady Bison, slowing MACU on 25.5 percent shooting from the field and forcing 33 turnovers. OBU scored 37 points off turnovers – almost enough on its own to win the game.
Six OBU free throws and a three-pointer by Tanna Truelove in a 9-0 Lady Bison run put OBU ahead 16-5 with 11:49 left.
Mid-America trailed by as many as 16 in the first half before an 11-2 run brought them back to within 28-23. Jennifer Jupin gave OBU a lift right before halftime with a three-pointer for a 31-23 advantage at intermission.
A 14-1 run to open the second half was all OBU needed to break the game open for a 45-24 lead with 12:40 left in the game.
Taujhnae Travis was OBU’s lone double-figure scorer with 14 points, shooting a perfect eight-for-eight at the free throw line. She also had seven steals and seven rebounds.
Betsy Simmons had 10 rebounds to lead OBU in that category.
Now 22-3 overall and 14-3 in the SAC, OBU hosts St. Gregory’s at 6 p.m., Tuesday.
