Oklahoma Baptist University recently announced the hiring of David Shannon, a former Shawnee police officer, as the university’s campus safety director.
“We feel fortunate to have David join our staff,” said Gary Robison, OBU assistant director of the physical plant, who oversees the campus safety office. “He is familiar with our campus. He is a strong people person and can move our campus safety operation – through his experience – to the next level.”
Shannon has served 25 years with the Shawnee Police Department. In 2006, he was recognized by the Shawnee Police Foundation as a recipient of the Outstanding Police Officer Award.
“I enjoy the atmosphere on the campus. It is great to work with the OBU community,” said Shannon. “The campus safety officers are experienced and knowledgeable. They do a good job of working to protect our students, faculty, staff and property.”
Shannon completed basic police academy in 1983 and completed investigation academy in 1993 through the Council for Law Enforcement Education and Training.
“We want our campus safety officers to continue to strengthen the rapport with students and with the campus community,” Shannon said. “As we offer assistance to them, we hope that they will assist us in doing our job through the information they can provide to us whenever issues arise.”
