Saturday Evening Concert Rescheduled

Saturday evening's Symphonic Winds and Bison Jazz Orchestra concert has been rescheduled for Monday, March 2 at 5 p.m.

Rawls to Give Recital at Vocal Honors Academy

Nationally noted tenor Arnold Rawls will present a recital on the Oklahoma Baptist University campus Thursday, Oct. 11 during OBU s sixth annual Vocal Honors Academy.



Rawl's recital will begin at 7:30 p.m., in Yarborough Auditorium, in OBU's Raley Chapel.



The Vocal Honors Academy is a two-day event for outstanding students from select Oklahoma high school choral programs. The academy is designed to develop and polish the talent and skills of young singers who may be considering music as a career.



The academy will include classes and lessons taught by OBU faculty, as well as a Performance Techniques Master Class taught by Dr. Rawls.



A 1982 OBU graduate, Rawls serves as artist and professor of sacred music at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. He frequently appears with opera companies across the nation, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Santa Fe Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, and the Nashville Opera. He also has performed as a soloist with the Lake Charles Symphony, the Rapides Symphony, and the Suburban Symphony in Chicago.



In addition to his teaching and performance work, Rawls is an active clinician, leading handbell techniques and vocal and choral clinics. He recently released an album of sacred music titled  Love Lifted Me.



Rawls earned a bachelor of music education degree at OBU. He completed a master s degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Oklahoma.



Rawls is the recipient of OBU s 2006 Distinguished Music Alumni Award.
