Boyer, Pate Named to All-Region Team

Oklahoma Baptist University catcher Jayme Boyer and center fielder Jami Pate were named to the First-Team All-NAIA Region VI Softball team Friday, with Boyer earning Co-Player of the Year honors.

As she did on the Sooner Athletic Conference level, Boyer shared Region Player of the Year honors with Oklahoma City’s Melody Murphy.

Boyer, a catcher from Shawnee, and Pate, a junior from Claremore, are now eligible for NAIA All-America honors.

Boyer was a three-time SAC and Region VI Player of the Week and had one NAIA Player of the Week honor for the year.

She established school records in home runs with 17, and walks with 36 – eight of those coming in two games at the SAC Tournament. She batted .408 and led the SAC in home runs, slugging percentage (.908) and on-base percentage (.543).

“Everybody around the league has great respect for Jayme Boyer,” said OBU coach Pam Fink. “The numbers are great, but they’re just a part of what she means to the team. She’s a terrific leader and motivator.”

Pate batted .367 with a league-leading 26 stolen bases in the regular season. She also had three home runs.

“Pate had an outstanding year,” Fink said. “She doesn’t get as much attention as Jayme Boyer, but she was an incredible player for us this year and is one of the fastest players we’ve ever had.”
