Wildman Wins NRB Essay Contest

Oklahoma Baptist University junior Owen Wildman recently received the National Religious Broadcasters’ annual Bob Dobbs Scholarship.

Wildman, a telecommunication major from Mayer, Ariz., submitted his essay, “The (Christian Broadcasting) Education of Me: Why I Refuse to be Anything Other than a Christian Broadcaster” to win the $2,500 scholarship.

“For the past three or four years, OBU telecommunication students have won more awards than I can count. They have set high standards for others who follow,” said Dr. Roger Hadley, chair of OBU’s communication arts division. “Now, Owen has raised the bar by winning the NRB scholarship. He is most deserving of this honor."

In addition to the scholarship, Wildman received a travel stipend to attend the annual NRB convention in Orlando, Fla.

Wildman recently received a $2,000 scholarship from the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters, as well as receiving six awards in the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association annual competition.

The NRB, along with KMA Direct Communications, sponsors the Bob Dobbs scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student at a Christian university majoring in communications, broadcasting or journalism.
