Bisonettes Conclude Spring Tour at OBU May 1

Oklahoma Baptist University’s Bisonette Glee Club will perform their spring concert Tuesday, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. in OBU’s Raley Chapel. The performance will conclude the Bisonettes’ annual spring tour.

“The concert’s theme is ‘Pathways to Song,’ and will include music relating to poetry, psalms and praise,” said Darla Eshelman, OBU associate professor of music education and director of the Bisonettes.

Composers featured include Volckmar Leisring, Antonio Vivaldi, Paul Ayers, James H. Laster, Eleanor Daley, Ron Jeffers, Craig Hella Johnson, Leo Deilbes, Marcos Leite, Jester Hairston, and Eshelman’s own arrangements.

Bethany Hailey, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., will assist Eshelman as a student conductor. The accompanists for the program are Spring Butler, a freshman from Grapevine, Texas, and Laura Inman, a freshman from Peyton, Colo.

“Performing with the Bisonettes has been one of the most enjoyable parts of my college experience,” said Hailey. “I have made lifelong friends and developed a new love and appreciation for the sound that’s created with an all-women’s choir. I have loved being a part of the Bisonettes because Dr. Eshelman is always energetic, positive, and pushing us towards excellence.”

The MacArthur String Quartet, directed by OBU assistant professor of music Michael Dean, will assist in part of the program.
