OBU and UCO Exchange Vocal Recitals

Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of Central Oklahoma will exchange vocal recitals this spring as musicians share their talents in Shawnee and Edmond. OBU will host its vocal recital, Feb. 27 in Yarborough Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
Two artists from UCO’s School of Music, Dr. Barbara Streets, head of vocal division, and Dr. Marilyn Govich, head of the opera/music theatre division, will perform together at OBU February 27.
Dr. Mark McQuade, OBU assistant professor of voice, and his wife Dr. Jennifer McQuade, UCO adjunct professor in music, will perform at UCO on March 26.
Streets has served as adjudicator for the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association, the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. She also has been a featured soloist at conventions of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, and presented an artist series recital for the NATS Texcoma Regional Fall Conference.
In 2003, Streets was a member of the People to People Ambassador Program’s music delegation to South Africa. She has presented a concert with organist Richard Jobe and recorded a scene from David Yeagley’s opera Jacek.
Streets earned her bachelor of music degree, master of music degree in voice, and PhD. in music education from the University of Oklahoma. She also has certification for level I, II and III in Contemporary Commercial Music Vocal Pedagogy.
Govich is an active recitalist, oratorio soloist, adjudicator and clinician. She is co-winner of the Biennial Dissertation Award of the National Opera Association, and received Provost’s Outstanding Dissertation Award from OU.
Govich has performed as a soloist with the Oklahoma Collegium Musicum. She has twice performed at the National Conference of the National Opera Association and twice presented artist recitals at NATS Texoma conferences.
Govich earned her D.M.A. in vocal performance from OU.
“This kind of musical interaction helps build collegiality and opens avenues for further partnership between the universities,” said Jennifer McQuade.
The McQuades also will perform at OBU on April 31.
