OBU Graduate Wins Music Composition Competition

A recent Oklahoma Baptist University graduate did not take long to put her degree into practice. Shawnee native Amy Burk won the Virginia Brooks Choral Composition Competition, sponsored by Boston Avenue Church, in Tulsa, Okla.

Burkís composition, Kyrie Eleison, was written in 2006 for unaccompanied choir. Majoring in theory and composition, she first performed the composition in her senior recital on the OBU campus.

Kyrie Eleison will be performed on April 29 at Boston Avenue Church as part of a choral concert and presentation of composition competition award winners.

Burk, daughter of Roger and Marily Burk, received her diploma during OBUís 2006 winter commencement in December. She graduated with OBUís highest academic rank, Summa Cum Laude, maintaining at least a 3.95 grade point average on all work offered for her bachelorís degree.
