OBU Students Place at Regional Computer Competition

Two OBU computer students attended the Association of Information Technology Professionals Region Three Student conference in Wichita Falls, Texas, and received awards in two competitions.

Micah Jones, a senior from Mansfield, Texas; and Philip Rowland, a senior from Claremore, Okla., placed second in Web Design and third in Visual Studio.

“Micah and Philip gave up their fall break to attend the conference,” said Dale Hanchey, OBU’s McCasland associate professor of computer science, who has served as OBU’s AITP faculty advisor since 1985. “I think that indicates the degree of their commitment to their field. They are both senior computer science majors and are outstanding students.”

This is the second consecutive year both Jones and Rowland placed in AITP competitions. They also earned Associate Computer Professional certificates.

“AITP provides an opportunity for students to mix with computer professionals,” said Hanchey. “This networking is important to the students because it enhances their job opportunities.”

Members of the OBU AITP student chapter will also attend the National AITP student conference in Detroit, Mich., March 28-31, 2007.
