To help qualified students apply for Gates Millennial Scholarships, Oklahoma Baptist University’s Admissions Office is hosting a workshop Monday, November 6 in the university’s Bailey Business Center.
Since 1999, the Gates Program has assisted minority students desiring to go to college. If selected, a student will receive a scholarship covering the costs of tuition, room and board, fees and books. The scholarship program is open to students who have a good grade point average and qualify for the Federal Pell Grant. The scholarship application deadline is January 12, 2007.
“The application process for the Gates Millennium Scholars award can be a bit overwhelming, but that should not discourage students from pursuing this opportunity,” said Bruce Perkins, OBU’s director of admissions. “The workshop will help students learn more about the GMS program and will offer individual help in understanding and completing the application materials.”
Current Gates Scholars who attend OBU will be available to answer questions. Parents and other church or civic leaders are encouraged to attend with their students. Additional information about the program is available online at www.gmsp.org.
The workshop will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at noon in Computer Lab 206 in Bailey Business Center. Parking is available on the south side of the building. To register, or to gain more information, call the OBU admissions office at 405.878.2033 or 800.654.3285, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
